SKUA

Nope not the bird but a place. SKUA is like the Goodwill or Salvation Army of Antarctica. From clothes and shoes, books and electronics, SKUA has it all donated by previous and current participants living at McMurdo. It's not much larger than a storage crate, and has that musty used smell every time I walk in. When I first got here it was jammed with stuff and now it seems fairly sparse. I've scored some great PJ's and boots from Skua, not to mention a handfull of paperbacks. So when people say they Skua-ed it, it came from SKUA, meaning it was donated. Sometimes you can get great stuff and other times . . . .well one man's junk is still junk.
